Being the fourth book in a series, I must admit I was constantly wondering what was happening 

since I hadn’t read any of the previous books – so if you’re wondering if it’s important to follow 

the novels, yes it is. It could be a standalone, but I really don’t recommend it since too many 

characters have histories that are explained in previous books that come either to an epic finish 

in this fourth instalment or has an impact that can’t be ignored neither. For a paranormal novel, 

which the use of magic and scenery is at the forefront, vividly described, we also have the 

romance aspect, which is not lacking and beautifully written (it’s neither crude nor childish) and 

entertaining. I know I would have enjoyed more the novel with the background between Jayde 

and Scotty so I could appreciate more the dilemmas, the desire to be back together, and 

especially having to decide who is Jayde’s true mate. I’m hoping that being able to read the 

entire series will give me a better perspective on the characters, but albeit that, I still enjoyed the 

thrill ride through the nymphs and Paineater world.
