Meeting two characters who have so much in common, in the way they act, their attitudes and
the way they see the world, is such a surprise that I kept coming back to the story, waiting for
the other shoe to drop – that is, in all the novels, nothing was easy and there was always a dark
or dangerous secret lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce. Lorelei James has a way with
words so that we are captivated by not only the characters, but the story itself, the descriptions
of the scenes, the areas, the smells, the clothing, are vivid and intense, you’d swear you were
there. Watching a family member go through a difficult medical trial is heart wrenching, and as
readers, we are not spared one inch, forced to live through the heart ache, the unknown of the
future, afraid that they’d suddenly die before goodbyes would be complete. Stripped Down is a
novella part of the Blacktop Cowboys series that could be read as a standalone (which I’m
guessing is why they decided to add it to the 1001 Dark Nights Series) and leaves no stones
unturned forcing readers to feel every emotions available to humans from sadness to all out
laughter, which makes it an amazing read!
